Coach Nick Welch
President, Director of Basketball Operations & High School Director
Coach Welch is the Varsity Head Coach for Boys Basketball at Redondo Union High School and the Director and Head Coach of the South Bay Supreme Basketball Club. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the United States Air Force Academy and enjoyed a stellar basketball career with the Falcons. He took the Mountain West Conference by storm as a sophomore in 2003-04 when he was named Mountain West Conference (MWC) Co-Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American by The Associated Press. He led Air Force to the regular-season conference championship and first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1962.

Coach Nick paced the team in scoring, rebounding, steals and finished second in assists en route to becoming Air Force's first and only conference player of the year. He scored in double figures in all 14 conference games and led the Falcons to a 12-2 record in Mountain West play before falling to North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Coach Nick also helped the Falcons to a school-record 26 wins, a national ranking of No. 11 and a trip to New York City to play at Madison Square Garden for the NIT semifinals as a senior in '06-07.

​Coach Nick earned his Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration from the University of Concordia at Irvine. He served almost eight years Active Duty in the United States Air Force before he separated as a Captain. His final two years Active Duty he served as an assistant basketball coach for the men’s basketball team at his alma mater, AFA. Since separating from the Air Force, he has worked as a civilian contractor at Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo, CA and has coached youth sports, to include football and basketball, for the last four years. Coach Nick is married to his wife Julie Tucker and they have five sons, Luke (8), JJ (10), Nick Jr (12), Brody (14) and Max (18).

Coach Brad Doan
Coach Brad Doan is currently the Varsity Head Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball at Redondo Union High School. Coach Doan graduated with his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles as well as a music degree from Musician’s Institute.

Coach Doan played high school and college basketball in Oregon. As a junior, Brad helped lead his team to the State Championship, where they were runners up. He was All-State his senior year leading Pacific Northwest in scoring and assists with 23.5 points and 11 assists per game and he played in the Nike All-State game.

Coach Doan played college basketball at Western Oregon State under Coach Mark Adams, who is ESPN’s Mid-Major head analyst as well as a College Basketball Analyst for the American Sports Network.

Coach Doan previously coach AAU Basketball for legendary Slam N Jam and has spent his last 4 years coaching at Palos Verdes High School where the 2018-2019 season he helped the Sea Kings Post their best record since the school reopened in 2002. Coach Doan is a Gold licensed certified USA Basketball Coach.

Coach Doan is a devoted husband and father and comes from a family of coaches. Brad is a strong proponent for the fundamentals of the game and is a life long gym rat.

Coach Matt Shaw
Coach Matthew Shaw is currently the Junior Varsity Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball at Redondo Union High School. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California where he attended Verbum Dei high school where he won 2 CIF championships and one division 4 southern Section championship. He later transferred to Fairfax High School where his team was ranked as high as 3rd in the nation. After graduating in 2006, he received a scholarship to the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), where he won 2 Mountain West tournament championships and made it to the sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. He later graduated in 2010 with a bachelors degree in University Studies and decided to pursue his professional basketball career in 2011. He played 9 seasons in over 11 different countries and was fortunate enough to win a Championship in Ukraine in 2016. After finishing his professional basketball career he was presented an opportunity to be a broker at Michel Financial where he is currently working and building plans to help athletes as well as everyday people secure their financial future.

Coach Ryan Manning
Coach Ryan Manning, who is the Varsity Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball at Redondo Union High School, joined the South Bay Supreme Basketball Club as a player-oriented coach with a wide knowledge of Basketball from all levels as a player and coach. He is excited and dedicated to giving everything he has learned to help young players succeed on and off the court.

While in High School in Sacramento, Coach Ryan was a 4-time League Champion, 4-time Section Champion, 3-time Nor Cal Open Division Finalist, and a California State Open Division Runner-up at Sheldon High School. Upon graduating, he received a Division 1 Basketball scholarship to the United States Air Force Academy. After leading the Air Force Academy Prep School Basketball team in points per game and rebounds per game, he went on to be a 4-year letterman and played in 92 games, despite a season-ending knee injury in his sophomore year. In 2019, he was selected to play for the All Air Force Basketball team where he was a starter and major contributor. He is currently selected as an alternate for the All Armed Forces Basketball team with the opportunity to win a gold medal at the Military World Games in Wuhan, China in October.
Coach Ryan comes from a sports background. His Father, Rich Manning, played professionally in the NBA and overseas for a total of 8 years, and is now the Assistant Coach at Sheldon High School in Sacramento, one of the top Basketball programs in the State of California. His Grandfather, Ron McKenna, is a Hall-of-Fame High School Basketball Coach in the Sacramento area, who has coached at every level. His brother, Matt Manning, was drafted 9th overall in the 2016 MLB Draft and is currently the #2 prospect in the Detroit Tigers Organization.

Coach Ryan received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Management from the United States Air Force Academy in 2018. He is currently serving as a Second Lieutenant at Los Angeles Air Force Base.

Coach Austin Leigh
Coach Austin Leigh is currently the Freshmen/Sophomore Assistant Coach and Junior Varsity Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball at Redondo Union High School. But, he is no stranger to the school. Austin graduated from RUHS in 2013 and was a member of the boys basketball State Championship team in 2012- 2013. Coach Austin brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to the program as a coach and as a former college player. He started playing for the Redondo Seahawks Basketball Club (known today as the South Bay Supreme Basketball Club) in 2006 and now pays it forward as a valued member of our coaching staff. Coach Austin has been refereeing High School, AAU, Recreation Leagues, coaching and mentoring youth in the South Bay for over seven years and counting. He enjoys training young athletes to help prepare them to be ready to play at the high school level. His goal is to help young athletes stay focused and motivated as a student-athlete and eventually play college basketball. In 2012-2013, Coach Austin and his Redondo Union High School basketball team won Regionals, CIF and State becoming Division II High School Basketball Champions at the Golden One Center in Sacramento, CA. He furthered his playing career by playing two years at El Camino College.

Coach Austin is working to receive his Bachelors of Science Degree (B.S.) in Administration Of Justice (Criminal Law) from the California State University Dominguez Hills in 2020. He is pursuing a career in Law Enforcement as a Police Officer. However, he will continue working his dream job coaching, mentoring young athletes and refereeing the game he loves, basketball.

Coach Kyle Blumberg
Coach Kyle is the Varsity Head Coach for Boys Basketball at Hoquiam High School in Hoquiam, WA. Before taking over as the Grizzlies head coach, Coach Kyle was the Freshmen/Sophomore Head Coach for Boys Basketball at Redondo Union High School. He is a greatly valued member of our coaching staff who brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to the program. He was the founder and has coached the Redondo Seahawks Basketball Club since 2006. He built the club for local South Bay youth to participate in competitive basketball in and around Southern California. Coach Kyle coached and mentored youth for over 14 years in the South Bay. His Redondo Seahawks Basketball Club has now transitioned into the South Bay Supreme Basketball Club.

If you ask Coach Kyle what he is most proud of as a coach his answer would be, “Ten out of the twelve kids we started the program with graduated college!” His love for basketball and the mentoring of youth shows on and off the court. “Compete” is his motto as he has been leading the charge in the South Bay since 2006. Several of his student-athletes were members of the Redondo Union Seahawks 2013 CIF and State Basketball Championship team; the first and only basketball state championship in school history.
